Stardust between Us
$1370.00 AUD
What David says: I became fascinated with the neon graveyard in Las Vegas. They had them in this place where they were dumped basically. They are all the old signs from Las Vegas in the 50s and 60s. Like the cocktail glass, the shoe, the stardust sign, they’re things I photographed at the neon museum. I also saw a figurine toy which fitted with that era which I painted pink, put him in the painting as a drag queen called Prizilla.
The Las Vegas Hills are a very flat brown, as they are in California. So I painted those blue to make them look like Australia. The sky is white in America. It doesn't take on a blue hue like they do here. And so I had to paint this blue. I had to do a lot of work to actually get my colours happening in this piece and bring it all together.
